Nikwax Polar Proof® is the only wash-in waterproofer specially formulated to protect and enhance synthetic insulation and fleece clothing. It adds long-lasting water repellency while maintaining breathability and softness — ensuring your gear keeps you warm, dry, and comfortable in damp or cold British conditions.
Perfect for gloves, jackets, fleece layers, and other synthetic gear, it’s quick and easy to apply in your washing machine or by hand, non-flammable, and completely PFC-free.

Why Use This Product
Your fleece garment may be absorbing water simply because it’s dirty. Before waterproofing, clean it with Nikwax Tech Wash® — often this alone will restore the original water repellency if the item is still new or recently treated.
However, once the garment has seen regular wear, you’ll need to reproof it with Nikwax Polar Proof® to renew the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) and maximise performance.
Proper cleaning is just as vital as waterproofing.
Ordinary detergents leave behind residues that attract water and block breathability. Nikwax Tech Wash® cleans without leaving water-attracting films, ensuring your waterproof treatments work to their full potential. Regular cleaning keeps your outdoor clothing performing better for longer.
How It Protects
Nikwax Polar Proof® is purpose-built for fleece fabrics. It applies a flexible, breathable water-repellent layer to individual fibres, maintaining airflow and comfort while repelling rain and moisture.
It also reduces pilling, extending the life of your garments and keeping them looking and performing like new.
This treatment works throughout the entire garment — not just on the surface — and develops full DWR upon air drying, removing the need for tumble drying and helping to save energy.
